On May 17, the 4th CanPharPlus Frontier Academic Conference, the Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University(SDMPU) Sciences High-Quality Development Forum Series, and the Tumor Special Forum of the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Complex Medical Intelligence and Aging were held at the university. Sun Xiangjun, Secretary of the CPC SDMPU Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a welcome speech, while Tian Geng, Vice President, presided over the event. The conference was chaired by Professor Pan Jingxuan from Sun Yat-sen University and Professor Huang Canhua from the National Key Laboratory of Biotherapy at West China Hospital of Sichuan University. Renowned experts and scholars from nearly 20 universities, research institutions, and medical organizations—including Tsinghua University, Peking University Cancer Hospital, China University of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Sun Yat-sen University, the Institute of Biophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Jinan University, Shandong Provincial Hospital, and Shandong Cancer Hospital—gathered to focus on cutting-edge interdisciplinary research in complex medical intelligence, aging, and oncology. Their discussions centered on aligning with the Healthy China strategy and the innovation needs of pharmaceutical science, exploring innovative approaches to tumor metabolism, immune regulation, and intelligent diagnosis and treatment to advance the high-quality development of healthcare services and the biopharmaceutical industry across the province.

In his speech, Sun Xiangjun briefly reviewed the universitys historical evolution and reform and development progress, highlighting how the institution leverages its strengths in distinctive disciplines to actively explore cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields such as oncology, intelligent medicine, and aging biology, and has established high-level research platforms like the Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Complex Medical Intelligence and Aging. He stated that the university will continue to uphold the principles of open education and win-win cooperation, deepen comprehensive collaborations with domestic and international universities, research institutes, medical institutions, and pharmaceutical enterprises, and strive to build robust academic exchange platforms. Together, they aim to advance pharmaceutical and medical technological innovation, cultivate high-caliber innovative talents, and safeguard public health, thereby contributing significantly to the Healthy China strategy and promoting the high-quality development of the healthcare sector.

 

In his address, Pan Jingxuan reviewed the original vision and mission of the CanPharPlus cutting-edge academic conference. He expressed hope that, leveraging this forum as an opportunity, participants would cherish the exchange opportunities, learn from each other, and derive tangible outcomes while fostering camaraderie through dialogue; encourage innovative thinking, prioritize talent cultivation, promote interdisciplinary integration, strengthen the alignment between research and clinical application, and advance the precise and efficient development of antitumor drugs to bring greater benefits to cancer patients.

 

During the meeting, Tian Geng expressed her hope to leverage this forum as an opportunity to establish a high-level academic exchange platform and promote innovative breakthroughs in key areas such as tumor metabolism, immune regulation, and intelligent diagnosis and treatment. She urged all experts and scholars to provide valuable insights to facilitate the universitys production of influential original research outcomes in these fields, thereby contributing to the development of a premier medical university.

Academic Reports 

This forum focused on cutting-edge areas of cancer research, bringing together top-tier academic experts from across the country. Following the opening ceremony, the academic presentation session officially commenced. Huang Canhua from Sichuan University, Zhang Huafeng from China University of Science and Technology, Zhang Zhiqian from Peking University, Hu Zeping from Tsinghua University, Jin Yanli from Jinan University, Liu Na from the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Zhang Guilong from Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Bu Pengcheng from the Institute of Biophysics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhou Zhaocai from Fudan University, Zheng Hanqiu from Tsinghua University, Cui Guoliang from China University of Science and Technology, and Li Zunling from Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University successively shared their latest research findings, clinical experiences, and treatment strategies in key topics including oxidative stress and tumor development, tumor metabolism and mitochondrial function regulation, novel targets and candidate drugs for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma, tumor metabolic remodeling, leukemia stem cell target identification and pharmacological intervention, nasopharyngeal carcinoma microenvironment modulation, intelligent tumor response mechanisms, metabolic regulation of tumor progression, neural regulation of gastric cancer and liver metastasis, tumor metastasis microenvironment interactions, T-cell metabolism and exhaustion, and novel immune checkpoint molecules. After each scholars presentation, attendees actively posed questions and engaged in lively discussions, creating a vibrant atmosphere of interactive exchange.

 

Finally, Pan Jingxuan delivered the meeting summary, offering high praise for the forums outcomes and on-site proceedings. He noted that the event focused on cutting-edge areas of cancer research, brought together top-tier domestic academic experts, and featured substantial, insightful content that truly facilitated interdisciplinary exchange and collaborative innovation. He emphasized that this forum should serve as a new starting point for participants to dedicate themselves to translational research and innovation, strengthen platform development, cultivate professional talent, enhance clinical service standards, and contribute their due share to cancer pharmacology research and advancement in Shandong and nationwide.

 

The forum was jointly organized by Tumor Pharmacology Committee of China Pharmacological Society and Anticancer Drug Committee of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, with Shandong Medical and Pharmaceutical University serving as the host institution. The theme of the forum was Deepening Connotation Development to Empower High-Quality Growth. The event not only provided participants with extensive academic perspectives but also injected innovative momentum into advancing high-quality development in Tumor Pharmacology research and treatment across the province and nationwide. Nearly 200 faculty members and students from relevant disciplines both within and outside the university attended the forum.
